Monsters Complete Four-Game Sweep of Roughriders

THATCHER, Az.– The Eastern Arizona College softball team completed a four-game sweep of Yavapai College on April 10–11 in conference action at Varsity Softball Field in Thatcher.

Eastern Arizona opened the series with an 8–0 win, holding Yavapai to one hit while generating consistent offense throughout the game. Camryn O'Farrell went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Kaylisa Nakoa drove in two runs and recorded a home run. Nuvia Urquiza and Jessica Szelenyi also added two RBIs apiece. Alexis Guzman tossed a complete game shutout, striking out eight and allowing just one hit.

The Monsters followed up with a dominant 16–2 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. Eastern Arizona scored early and often, finishing with 16 runs on 16 hits. Madeline Reed led the offense with four hits and three RBIs. Nuvia Urquiza added three hits and two RBIs, while Jessica Szelenyi and Camryn O'Farrell each drove in two runs. Destanee Nez earned the win in the circle, striking out seven over five innings.

Eastern Arizona remained unbeaten in the series with a 10–9 win on Saturday morning. The Monsters answered Yavapai runs in each inning and relied on timely hitting to stay ahead. O'Farrell finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored, while Reed delivered a four-RBI performance, including a home run. Nuvia Urquiza drove in two runs, and Jessica Szelenyi added an RBI to help secure the win.

The series concluded with a 3–2 victory for Eastern Arizona in a tightly contested finale. The Monsters capitalized on scoring opportunities and held off a late push from Yavapai. Madeline Reed, Jessica Szelenyi, and Gabriella Bonilla each drove in a run. Destanee Nez pitched a complete game, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out four to close out the sweep.

Eastern Arizona will return to action with a four-game road series at Central Arizona College. The Monsters are scheduled to play on April 17 at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., followed by games on April 18 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
