Gila Monsters Softball Win Three of Four at Arizona Western
Eastern Arizona College softball opened a four-game road series at Arizona Western College last weekend and closed it strong, winning the final three games to take the series.
The Lady Gila Monsters dropped the opening game after Arizona Western built an early lead, but EAC settled in as the game progressed and carried that momentum into the rest of the weekend.
Eastern Arizona responded in the second game with a balanced effort. Camryn O'Farrell helped spark the offense early, while timely hitting throughout the lineup allowed EAC to build an advantage. Defensively, the Lady Gila Monsters limited opportunities and played clean softball to even the series.
The third game showcased Eastern Arizona's offensive depth. Nuvia Urquiza drove in multiple runs as EAC applied pressure inning after inning, while Kaylisa Nakoa and Jessica Szelenyi contributed key hits to extend rallies. In the circle, Destanee Nez worked through traffic and kept Arizona Western from mounting a late comeback as the Lady Gila Monsters earned their second straight win.
Eastern Arizona carried that momentum into the series finale. Hunter Jackson and Analise Montiel delivered extra-base hits to give EAC early momentum, and the defense remained steady behind a complete-game effort from Alexis Guzman. Arizona Western attempted to rally late, but Eastern Arizona answered with timely execution to secure the win and clinch the series.
The Lady Gila Monsters return home this week to host Yavapai College in ACCAC action. Eastern Arizona will play doubleheaders on Friday, April 10, at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., followed by two games on Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the EAC Softball Field.
