Gila Monsters Split Highly Competitive Road Series at Southern Nevada
HENDERSON, Nv.– Eastern Arizona softball put together a strong road showing at College of Southern Nevada, winning two of three behind consistent offense and steady pitching.
Eastern opened the series on March 27 with a 4–3 victory, breaking through with a four run sixth inning. Key run producers included Malayah Renteria, Nuvia Urquiza, and Analise Montiel, while Jessica Szelenyi added a double. Alexis Guzman went the distance, allowing just two earned runs on seven hits and holding off a late push to secure the one run win.
In the first game on March 28, Eastern Arizona fell 9–13 despite a strong offensive performance. The Gila Monsters collected 17 hits, including three hit days from Jessica Szelenyi, Madeline Reed, Nuvia Urquiza, and Gabriella Bonilla, who also tallied two doubles. Multiple players drove in runs, including Szelenyi, Camryn O'Farrell, Reed, Renteria, Urquiza, and Bonilla. EAC continued to pressure Southern Nevada throughout, but an early surge from the Coyotes proved decisive.
Eastern responded in the final game with a 12–9 win powered by another 17 hit outing. Vanessa Gavigan drove in four runs, while Gabriella Bonilla homered and added two more RBI. Szelenyi, O'Farrell, Reed, Urquiza, and Bonilla all produced multiple hits as the Gila Monsters stacked scoring across several innings. Guzman once again threw a complete game, managing traffic and limiting damage in key situations to lock down the series win.
Eastern Arizona now turns its attention to a four game road set at Arizona Western College, with matchups scheduled for April 2 at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., followed by April 3 at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
