Monsters Fall to Cochise in Region I Semifinal
THATCHER, Ariz. — The Eastern Arizona College men's basketball team saw its postseason run come to an end Thursday night, falling to Cochise College 90–76 in the NJCAA Region I Semifinals.
Eastern Arizona came out strong early, jumping to a quick 5–0 lead after a layup by Toms Salnajs and a three-pointer from Ryder Bush. Cochise responded midway through the first half, but the Monsters continued to battle and regained momentum behind key baskets from Kahu Treacher and Ryan Hunt.
The game remained tight throughout the opening half. Hunt connected on a three-pointer with 11:13 remaining, and Derek Collins added a three later in the half to help Eastern Arizona keep pace. Treacher delivered a clutch three-pointer in the final seconds of the half, giving the Monsters a 34–33 advantage heading into the break.
Cochise opened the second half with a strong run to regain the lead and gradually pulled away as the half progressed. Despite several second-chance opportunities and strong rebounding from Hunt, Eastern Arizona was unable to close the gap.
Treacher led the Monsters in scoring with 16 points, while Hunt controlled the boards with a team-high 10 rebounds. Bush facilitated the offense throughout the night, finishing with eight assists.
The loss concludes the Monsters' season in the Region I semifinals.
