Monsters Split Doubleheader, Fall in Series to Arizona Western

THATCEHR, Az.– Eastern Arizona College split a conference doubleheader with Arizona Western on April 10 before dropping the series finale on April 11 in Thatcher.

The Monsters opened the weekend with a 2–4 loss in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader. Eastern Arizona scored both runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Gustavo Gomez. Reece Van Devander added a two-hit game, while Gunnar Pedersen and Tristan Fielder also recorded hits. The Monsters were held to six hits overall and were unable to answer after Arizona Western regained the lead. On the mound, Shaveh Sarono worked four innings, while Nolan Matejcek threw three scoreless innings in relief.

Eastern Arizona responded in the second game of the doubleheader with a 9–1 victory. The Monsters built an early lead and pulled away late, scoring in six different innings. Gunnar Pedersen finished with two hits, two runs, and an RBI, while Gustavo Gomez drove in two more. Kenny Wilsford, Drew Bufford, Kayne Carlos, and Luke Santarius each added RBIs as Eastern Arizona collected eight hits and drew eight walks. Grant McMeekin earned the win after five strong innings, allowing one unearned run with 11 strikeouts, and Jorge Roman closed the game with three shutout innings.

The series concluded on Friday with a 5–10 loss for the Monsters. Eastern Arizona stayed within reach early before Arizona Western broke the game open with a six-run stretch in the middle innings. Will Applegate finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Edouard Lamontagne reached base five times and scored twice. Tristan Fielder added a hit and a run, and Gunnar Pedersen drove in a run. On the mound, the Monsters used five pitchers, with Maverick Delgado providing four innings of relief.

Eastern Arizona continues conference play next week when it hosts Cochise College. The Monsters will open the series on April 17 at 2 p.m. before welcoming Cochise for a doubleheader on April 18 with games scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
