EAC Volleyball, Soccer Teams Post Strong Week
Eastern Arizona College's athletics teams had a busy and successful week, with key conference wins and standout performances in both volleyball and soccer.
Volleyball
The Lady Monsters volleyball team picked up two big road victories. On Sept. 17, EAC traveled to Central Arizona College and came away with a 3–1 victory. Addison Hinckley led the way with 17 kills and four service aces, while Hannah Pushckor was dominant at the net with 12 blocks. Defensively, Kambria Maloy collected 25 digs.
The team stayed hot on Sept. 19 in Yuma, outlasting Arizona Western in a five-set thriller, 3–2. Hinckley once again paced the offense with 15 kills and added four aces. Rylee Pitney contributed four blocks and four service aces, while Cale Torgerson anchored the defense with 14 digs.
The Monsters return home this weekend, hosting Central Arizona College at Guitteau Gymnasium on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The women's soccer team opened the week at home on Sept. 16 with a commanding 8–0 shutout over CSN. They followed that up with a 2–0 road win at Mohave on Sept. 20. Adysen Smith, assisted by Suika Shibutani, put the Monsters on the board in the 34th minute, while Brynn Kelly added a late goal in the 88th minute off an assist from Kayme Smith. Goalkeeper Katelyn Cardon secured the clean sheet with five saves.
The women return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at home against Justice University, with kickoff at 4:30 p.m.
Men's Soccer
The men's squad also started the week strong, defeating CSN 2–0 at home on Sept. 16. However, their Sept. 20 trip to Mohave ended in a 4–2 loss. Isaiah Owens opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, but Mohave quickly responded with two goals before the 19th minute. Angel Berrios added EAC's second goal in the 43rd minute, but Mohave pulled away with another pair of goals, including one in the 63rd minute. Keeper Bruno Santos recorded six saves in the effort.
The Monsters will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday, Sept. 23, when they host Community Christian College at 7 p.m.
The week will also feature Homecoming celebrations, with the parade set for Saturday at 11 a.m. along Stadium Avenue, starting at Mark Allen Dorm and finishing at the field.
