Monsters Volleyball and Soccer Battle Through the Weekend

Eastern Arizona College women's volleyball defended home court this past weekend, sweeping a two-match series against Yavapai College.

On Friday, the Lady Monsters rolled to a 3-0 victory behind a balanced team effort. Addison Hinckley powered the offense with 14 kills, while Hannah Pushckor anchored the defense at the net with 5 blocks. Libero Kambria Maloy dug out 21 balls, and Marli Lopeman added 3 service aces to seal the win.

Saturday's rematch was more competitive, but Eastern held strong for a 3-1 victory. Cale Torgerson led the way with 13 kills, while also contributing a team-high 21 digs and 4 service aces. Pushckor added 3 more blocks in the middle, helping the Monsters complete the weekend sweep.

EAC volleyball will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 17, when they travel to face Central Arizona College.

Meanwhile, Eastern Arizona soccer faced a tough road trip to Yuma against powerhouse Arizona Western. The No. 14-ranked Lady Monsters pushed the No. 2 Matadors in a 1-2 battle. Western opened scoring at the 15:42 mark but Brynn Kelly answered by scoring in the 17th minute off an assist from Abbi Sanford. The game-winner was made late in the 86th minute by the Lady Matadors.

On the men's side, the Monsters went toe-to-toe with No. 10 Western but fell 0-1 on a second-half goal in the 52nd minute. Goalkeeper Bruno Santos kept EAC in the game with 3 saves.

Monster soccer returns home Tuesday to host the College of Southern Nevada, with the women kicking off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7 p.m.
