Monsters Roll Over Scottsdale


The Eastern Arizona College men's basketball team won on the road Saturday night as they defeated Scottsdale 77-59.

Both teams got off to a fast start offensively scoring on their first four possessions each. The game continued to go back and forth throughout the half with EAC taking a 36-35 lead into the break. The second half was all Eastern as they scored the first seven points of the half and twelve of the first thirteen to push the lead to double figures where it remained the rest of the game. The Gila Monsters led by as many as 19 on two occasions late in the game before ending with the seventeen point victory. In the second half Eastern's defense rose to the challenge holding Scottsdale to 18% shooting from the field and 16% from the three point line.

Eastern was led in scoring by Brandon Woods who scored a game high 21 points. Jerryck Owens-Murrey produced his first double-double of the year by scoring 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Phillip Harvey and Ronald Thomas each added nine while Harvey paced the offense with 5 assists and Sone Finister chipped in on the glass with nine rebounds.

Eastern (17-9, 11-7) travels to Pima College on Wednesday before returning home on Saturday against Yavapai. Game times are set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.
