Eastern Falls in Opener

Tennis opened up the season with Glendale at home this Tuesday, getting their first match jitters out of the way. Although the final score, being 2-7, doesn’t quite say how tight the match was, having 3 very close matches. The first nail bitter was with our #2 Doubles, Jacquelyn Varela & Amanda Daniels, with a score of 7-9. Another close call was our #3 doubles, Ash Lee Hatch & Mandi Rogers, with a final score of 8-9, ending in a tie-breaker (3-7).

After loosing all three Doubles, it was time for the Singles matches to continue the close battles. Jacquelyn Varela played an awesome match with Glendale’s #3 player, with a final score of 6-2, 2-6, 5-7, making it another very close match.

Amanda Daniels fought hard against the #4 Glendale player, with a final score of 1-6, 6-4, 4-6. Making an effortless win, Kelleye Blan smoked her opponent with a score of 6-1, 6-2, at the #6 singles. Ash Lee Hatch won at #5 singles with a score of 6-3, 6-7(5-7), 6-1.

Making this a 5-hour match, the longest in EAC history, shows how tough these girls really are, and will fight till the end. Going into the second game of the season Eastern travels to Gateway CC on Thursday. With Gateway only having 4 players, the Lady Monster will use this match to better prepare us for the toughest competition, Scottsdale CC, which travels to Thatcher this up-coming Tuesday.
