Eastern Receives Early Commitments

Eastern Arizona College Baseball got a jump on recruiting with the signing of four players in January.

Michael Lio comes to the Monster program from Chaparral HS in Scottsdale. He plays under the legendary Jerry Dawson and the Firebird program. Lio is a shortstop/second baseman who is 5’9 and 170 pounds. He has a chance to contribute early in the 2006 season. Michael is also a strong academic student.

Michael Brownstein is another shortstop with ability to contribute as a freshman. He hails from Sahuaro HS in Tucson and Coach Mark Chandler. At 5’11 and 160 pounds, Brownstein also played football, will run on the track relay team, and is also an excellent student.

Justin Esquibel comes to the Monsters from Rio Rancho HS in New Mexico. The 5’9 and 185 pound catcher/outfielder plays for Ron Murphy. He also played linebacker on the football team and earned All-Metro honors. The multi-year starter in baseball follows Rio Rancho alums Sal Puentes and Noah Trujillo who started for the Monsters in 2004.

Zach Moore returns to Eastern in 2005-06 after foot surgeries kept him out all of this year. The 2003 Santa Rita HS graduate played for his father Dan who has been one of the best coaches in Tucson for over 20 years. At 6’4 and 205, Moore was in the rotation for the Monsters in 2004 and will be looked to fill the same role in 2006.

Finally, Brek Haymore who has been on a church mission will return to Eastern. Haymore comes from Buena HS in Sierra Vista under the tutelage of Bill Wright and follows brothers Daigen, Garrick, and Ryan all alumni of Eastern. Garrick is currently a starting outfielder for the University of New Mexico. Haymore is a 5’10 and 170 pound third baseman.
