Eastern Splits on the Road

soft

Ice Cold is the best way to describe the first game of EAC softball against Mesa on Tuesday. Having a week long lay off due to rain and mud the Gila Monsters proved that practice can be beneficial and necessary in order to stay sharp. EAC who committed 3 errors in the game that cost them 4 runs and who only came up with 3 hits ended up losing by a score of 0-4. Formo on the mound, although giving up no earned runs takes the loss for EAC and her record stands at 3-1-1.

In game 2, the Monsters were playing tough not scoring any runs, but no giving up any on defense led 2-0 after 4 innings. Raveon Harrowa a freshman from Nevada had a lead off home run in the 3rd and that was followed by Sabina Chavez drawing the walk and scoring on Allyson Nye’s double in the 4th. Erica Beltran held Mesa off the bases with a no hitter through the 5th inning. Mesa erupted for 4 runs in the 6th on 4 hits. Eastern showed some spark in the 7th with, Toyota leading off with a single. Jacobs sac bunts her to 2nd base and that sets up the top of the order with a runner at two. Regina Sandoval a freshman from Hayden takes an outside pitch over the base at first that scores Toyota from 2nd base. The Big Bomber Maren Christensen is always dangerous with runners on and she rips a triple down the right field line that scores Sandoval and she scores on an overthrow to 3rd base from the catcher. EAC takes the lead 5-4. That is how it ended up with Christensen (3-0-1) cleaning up the Mesa hitters I the 7th.

Eastern needs some consistency going into the weekend at the Dixie Icebreaker. With 4 games scheduled on Friday and an elimination tournament on Saturday, the Monster’s are looking to get back in the drivers seat for the tough conference that is beating down the door to play.
