Lady Monsters Sweep Paradise Valley

On Feb. 8, the Gila Monster Softball team took to the road again for their second conference series. EAC started out a little slow in the first game after having no opportunity for practice on Monday, due to a sloppy field. Although we jumped out to a 5-0 third inning, that was all we could come up with in the game and at that point we were happy to just hang on to win 5-2.

After two very quiet innings, EAC led off the third with Amber Toyota a sophomore hitting a single to left field. Lieryn Jacobs a freshman from Nevada moved her over to third on another nice hit down the left field line. Markie Varela did what she does and gets on base and scores Toyota on her hit to center field. Ariadne Gonzalez a freshman from Carson City draws the walk to set up the RBI’s for number four batter, Allyson Nye. In all, 5 runs scored on 5 hits and a walk in the inning. Savannah Formo gets the win for the Gila Monsters and steps up to a 3-0-1 record.

Game 2 is all Gila Monsters. Finally getting warmed up, EAC crushed the second pitcher for Paradise Valley for 18 hits and 13 runs. Maren Christensen takes the win for EAC and her record improves to 3-0. EAC cleared the bench with everyone getting playing time.

EAC has not been on the practice field or played since Tuesday the 8th due to rain and mud. The game originally scheduled with Central for Saturday the 12th was rained out and rescheduled for February 27. From the looks of things, the Gila Monsters will play again without practice when they travel to Mesa on Tuesday for the third conference series.

Eastern Softball is 8-1-1 overall and 3-1 in conference.
