Chiamaka to Participate in NJCAA All-Star Weekend

After a standout freshman campaign in a historical season for EAC women’s basketball, Chukwuma “CC” Chiamaka will participate in the 6th Annual NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star Weekend. She will travel to Niceville, Florida July 24-27 to take part in position workouts and team practices on the 25th and all-star games on the 26th and 27th.

The group of 40 players was chosen by a committee from more than 90 nominations by junior college coaches at the Division I, II, and III levels.

Chiamaka, from Lagos, Nigeria, led the Lady Gila Monsters with eight double-doubles in points and rebounds. She also led the team with 10.3 rebounds per game, good for 3rd in the ACCAC and 24th in the nation. She earned ACCAC Player-of-the-Week honors on January 13th for her two game totals of 15 points and 29 rebounds in wins over Scottsdale and South Mountain.

“CC was our defensive stopper and our heart on the floor,” head coach Ryan McAdams said. “She set a tone for our group in work ethic, toughness, and competitive intensity. I am happy she has been rewarded for her efforts and selflessness for our program.

“It could not happen to a more deserving person. She is a tremendous student-athlete in all areas, especially the classroom.” Chiamaka earned a 3.88 GPA her first year, carrying 18 solid hours each semester, including concurrent enrollment in two lab sciences this spring.

The Lady Gila Monsters set school records for total wins in a season (23), conference wins in a season (16), and the program’s first trip to the national tournament.

Chiamaka is the third player from EAC to participate in the All-Star event in as many years. She follows 2012 selection Amara Wainwright and 2013 selection Shaunice Robinson.
