Bball Men vs. Pima CC


The Eastern Arizona College men's basketball won their second game of the week Saturday night when they defeated Pima College 80-66.

The game began slowly with there being five lead changes and four ties in the first eleven minutes before EAC could spurt to a 13-0 run to take the lead for good. Eastern built the margin to thirteen, 37-23 at the break. The second half saw the Gila Monsters continue their fine play pushing the lead to 55-33 with twelve minutes left in the game. Pima however would not go quietly as they mounted one final charge cutting the Monster lead to 10 with 2 minutes left but could get no closer.

Eastern placed six players in double figures led by Hrvoje Pervan's 16. Freshman guard Chris Booker came off the bench with his best outing of the year netting 15 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, passing out 5 assists and coming away with 3 steals. Sone Finister scored 12 while pulling down 14 rebounds, Brandon Woods added 12 points and nine rebounds, Jerryck Owens-Murrey chipped in with 11 and Phillip Harvey contributed 10 points and 4 assists. Eastern's strong defensive and rebounding efforts continued as they held Pima to 34% shooting on the night and they out rebounded the visiting Aztecs 53-28.

Eastern (11-5, 5-3) will travel to Yavapai on Wednesday night for another ACCAC contest. EAC will return home again on Saturday when they will host South Mountain. Game time for both is slated for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.

EAC Notes: Sone Finister, a 6-7 freshman forward from Los Angeles was voted ACCAC player of the week on Sunday. In Eastern's two victories Finister scored 30 points and pulled down 32 rebounds, 20 of which came on the offensive end. He also passed out 5 assists, had 3 steals and blocked a shot.
