BBall Men vs. Central Arizona

Eastern Arizona College men's basketball team dropped their first conference game of the year Wednesday night when they lost an 88-82 decision to Central Arizona.

Both teams started the night in a share of a first place tie in the ACCAC at 2-0 but the visiting Vaqueros led from the start and quickly built a 10 point lead. Eastern then went on a 19-4 run to take a five point lead before settling into a 41 tie at the break. The second half started the same way for the Gila Monsters as they saw Central jump out to a double figure lead within the first four minutes. Eastern chipped away at the lead getting as close as two several times, the last of which with 10 seconds remaining. Central however made five of six free throws down the stretch to hold on to the win.

Eastern placed five players in double figures led by Brandon Woods who scored 20 points, Phillip Harvey added 19 points with 8 assists. Brad Smith scored 14, Russell Murrey 11 and David Williams chipped in with 10. The normally strong EAC defense struggled on the night not only allowing 88 points but they saw Central shoot 53% from the field - 14% points higher than Eastern's season defensive average.

The week does not get any easier for the Gila Monsters (6-3, 2-1) as they now travel to face undefeated and third ranked Arizona Western on Saturday. Game time is 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.
