Baseball Coaching Staff

Head Coach Jim Bagnall was a member of the U. of Arizona’s 1980 NCAA National Championship team serving as Wildcat captain his senior year. After a stint in the Kansas City Royals organization, Coach Bagnall served as an assistant at Old Dominion (where he also received his Master of Arts degree) before moving on to the U. of Georgia where he was on staff during their national championship season. In past summers, he coached in the Alaskan and the Cape Cod leagues.

Coach Bagnall assumed the head position at Eastern in the spring of 1996 and fielded his first team the following year. He later took on the duties of EAC Athletic Director.

About the College

Eastern is Arizona’s oldest community college with approximately 1,500 full-time students on the main campus in Thatcher. Over 200 are athletes, the majority of whom live in on-campus residence halls. EAC fields teams in football, basketball (men’s & women’s), volleyball, softball, golf (men’s), tennis (women’s), and baseball.

Eastern is located in Graham County with a population of 35,000. The main campus is in the Gila Valley at the base of the beautiful Mt. Graham, a 10,720 foot peak. Principal economic activities in the area include farming, ranching, mining, governmental services, and higher education.

Recreational opportunities and facilities include swimming, skating, hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, biking, natural hot springs, golfing, equestrian sports, Discovery Park, and the Mt. Graham Observatory. Both the College and the community offer a wide variety of activities and cultural events.

Baseball Season

EAC’s Gila Monster Baseball team is a Division I member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC). The ACCAC is a 15-team wood bat league playing a 36 conference game schedule. Eastern fills out its 56 game schedule with non-conference opponents including 2016 DII World Series participant Monroe CC (NY), 2016 Region 9 Champions Trinidad State JC (CO), Region 18 member Utah State University Eastern, and Region 5 members El Paso CC and Luna CC (NM).
