Monsters Pull Away From Chandler-Gilbert
Thatcher, AZ --
It took a late scoring surge by Eastern Arizona College to finally put Chandler-Gilbert away 94-86 in Thatcher Wednesday night.
After falling behind 49-43 at the half, the Gila Monsters used their advantage inside to pull away down the stretch. Dazmond Starke led the way once again with a game-high 26 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor to go with six rebounds. Donald Johnson logged his sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds, including a late dunk along the baseline to close the door on the Coyotes.
The victory didnít come without a set back for EAC, though. Starting guard Brandon Magee fell hard on a defender in the second half and suffered a concussion. He was taken to the hospital following the game for monitoring. His status will be determined in days to come.
With the win, the Gila Monsters push their overall record to 9-8 and their ACCAC record to 3-6. They have won five of their last six games and look to continue their winning ways Saturday when they travel to Scottsdale for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. Chandler-Gilbert (10-7 overall, 5-4 ACCAC) takes on Phoenix at Mesa Community College Saturday at 1 p.m.
