Monsters Stumble ion the Road
Phoenix, AZ --
For the third time this season, the Eastern Arizona College menís basketball team fell on the road by two points. This time around it was at the hands of the Phoenix College Bears by a final of 72-70.
The Gila Monsters had a chance to tie the game with 4 seconds on the clock coming out of a timeout. Inbounding the ball on the sideline in front of their own bench, Head Coach Maurice Leitzke drew up a play to isolate Dazmond Starke in the post and look for a lob pass and a quick conversion to tie the game.
The Bears were able to take the lob away, however, and a last chance three-pointer from the corner by Kalonji Paschal fell short as the final buzzer sounded.
EAC was paced by Starke with a game-high 17 points to go with six rebounds. Mike James (16), Mario Gill (13), and Donald Johnson (12) all reached double figures in the scoring column, as well.
Phoenix was led by Will Donahue with 14 points and eight rebounds.
The Gila Monsters (7-8 overall, 1-6 ACCAC) next host Yavapai while Phoenix travels to Scottsdale. Both games are on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
