The 20th ranked Eastern Arizona College basketball team saw their 12 game winning streak snapped Saturday night when they lost 66-60 at the hands of the 9th ranked Division II South Mountain Cougars.
The game was a back and forth affair in the first half as neither team could get untracked on offense. At the break EAC held a slim 24-22 advantage. South exploded to start the second half going on a 22-7 run to take a 13 point lead. EAC chipped away at it but could never get closer to four. Two straight possessions Eastern had the ball down by four but came away empty both times and in the end could not continue their winning streak.
Two EAC players scored in double figures on the night led by Chop Tang's 16 points. Dontae Bryant added 13 and grabbed a team high 14 rebounds. Eastern came into the game shooting 53% from the field on the year but shot a season low 23% from the field and 25% from behind the arc.
Eastern drops to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the ACCAC. The loss also drops them out of sole possession of first place and back into a three way tie. EAC will return home on Wednesday night when they face Glendale. Game time is set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard via the internet at www.swsn.net.
