Yuma, AZ --
January 5, 2007
The Eastern Arizona College basketball team won their final non-conference game of the season Saturday when they defeated Northwest College 74-60 in the Wells Fargo Classic in Yuma.
For the second day in a row the Gila Monsters started slowly. EAC trailed for most of the games first twelve minutes before finally grabbing the lead at 16-15. At that point Eastern outscored Northwest 18-9 the rest of the half to take a 34-24 advantage into the break. EAC could never quite put the game out of reach but were never threatened either in the final twenty minutes.
EAC was led in scoring for the second straight game by Chop Tang. Tang poured in a game high 20 points to go with his nine rebounds. Vladimir Bulut added 13 while Nikola Kecman and Jonathan Scott each chipped in with nine points. Markhuri Sanders-Frison pulled down a game high 13 rebounds and Dontae Bryant paced the team with eight assists.
EAC (13-1, 6-0) resumes conference play Wednesday when they host Arizona Western in a showdown of the two league leaders. Game time is set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.
