The Eastern Arizona College basketball team returned to action Friday during the opening day of the Arizona Western Wells Fargo Classic and did so in fine fashion by defeating Casper College 65-49. EAC hadn't played in two and a half weeks and the rust was apparent early on. Eight minutes into the game Eastern held a small 9-7 lead as neither team could get going offensively. EAC finally warmed up ending the half on a 20-5 run to take a 29-12 lead into the locker room. The Gila Monster lead increased to as many as 22 and never dipped below 12 in the final twenty minutes.
Eastern was led in scoring on the day by Chop Tang's 18 points. Nikola Kecman added 15 and Will Bynum chipped in with 10. Markhuri Sanders-Frison led the rebounding attack with seven and Dontae Bryant handed out a team high six assists.
EAC (12-1, 6-0) will face Northwest Wyoming in the second and final day of the Classic. Game time is set for 3:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net. Eastern will resume ACCAC play on Wednesday when they will host Arizona Western - the game will be a battle for first place as both teams are tied atop the conference at 6-0.
