Monsters Beat #19 Cochise on the Road
Douglas, AZ --
The Eastern Arizona College basketball team went on the road Wednesday night for an early season battle for first place in the ACCAC and defeated 19th ranked Cochise College 86-81.
EAC started the game by falling behind 8-0 before rallying to tie the score at 14 all. Eastern led the rest of the half pushing their advantage to as many as seven before going into the locker room ahead 46-43. The Gila Monsters spurted ahead to a 62-53 lead before Cochise cut the margin to two in just under a minute. Cochise took a brief lead at 78-74 with five minutes left but the Monster defense finally made an appearance and held the Apaches to only three points down the stretch to come away with the victory.
Eastern again had a very balanced scoring attack placing six players in double figures led by Nikola Kecman's 17. Chop Tang and Markhuri Sanders-Frison each had 13, Will Bynum scored 12 and Vladimir Bulut and Jonathan Scott chipped in with ten apiece. EAC had struggled shooting the ball from three of late but broke out of that slump by connecting on 9-15 attempts from beyond the arc and again won the battle on the glass out rebounding Cochise 39-30.
EAC (8-1, 3-0) will return to Thatcher for their last home game of 2007 when they host Central Arizona Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.
