Chandler, AZ --
November 28, 2007
The Eastern Arizona College basketball team opened the 2007-2008 ACCAC season by surviving a scare on the road Wednesday night when they came from behind to beat Chandler-Gilbert 85-78.
The first half was dominated by the shooting of Chandler-Gilbert as they connected on an amazing 10 of 11 three point attempts in the first twenty minutes. Due to the hot shooting EAC found themselves trailing 43-23 with just over four minutes left before making a slight rally to cut the deficit to 49-36 at the break. The margin remained at 13 three minutes in when Eastern finally took control going on a 26-4 run over the next six minutes to take a lead they would cling to the rest of the game.
EAC placed five players in double figures on the night led by freshman forward Nikola Kecman's 18 points. Fellow Serbian Vladimir Bulut scored 16 followed by Markhuri Sanders-Frison with 14, Chop Tang with 12 and Dontae Bryant added 11 on nine of ten shooting from the line. Eastern dominated the glass, especially on the offensive end where they corralled 22 offensive rebounds on the night which helped offset their worst shooting performance of the year.
EAC (6-1, 1-0) will return home on Saturday night when they play host to Mesa. Game time is set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via the internet at www.swsn.net.
