Eastern Beats New Mexico Military Institute

The Eastern Arizona College basketball team concluded their trip to the South Plains College Classic in fine fashion Saturday when they defeated New Mexico Military Institute 78-59. Other than one early NMMI lead and one tie Eastern led from wire to wire. A 40-27 EAC halftime lead was only cut under double digits only once in the second half at which time the Gila Monsters responded with seven straight points to regain command of the game. Eastern pushed their lead to as many as 21 before ending with the 19 point victory. All three EAC wins thus far this season have been by double figures and in all three games Eastern has led by as many as twenty points.
EAC was led in scoring by sophomore forward Chop Tang who tallied 22 points. Nikola Kecman scored 16 despite being hampered by foul trouble. Jonathan Scott chipped in with 13 and Will Bynum added 10. Dontae Bryant passed out a team high eight assists and Roman Andrade had another solid all around game off the bench scoring six points, grabbing five rebounds, and handing out five assists. Eastern shot 65% from the field however turned the ball over 26 times. The EAC defense held NMMI to only 27% from the field though NMMI did grab 20 offensive rebounds.
Eastern moves to 3-1 on the young season and will now return home for their Thanksgiving Classic. This weekends games will be the final two non conference games before they kick off the ACCAC season November 28th. The Classic schedule will see EAC take on Grand Canyon JV on Friday followed by Clark College on Saturday.
