Game Recap

Monsters Nipped by South Plains

South Plains, TX --

The Eastern Arizona College basketball team traveled to South Plains College Friday night and dropped a heart breaker by the score of 65-63. Both teams came into the game undefeated and Nationally ranked as the Gila Monsters came in ranked 27th and Texans of South Plains came in 21st. The game lived up to the expectations. EAC fell into an early hole falling behind by as many as eight points in the games first ten minutes. They then rallied and took a 33-28 lead into halftime. Eastern stretched their lead to as many as seven before South Plains came back. At one point in the second half South Plains went on an 18-3 run to take the largest lead of the game, 12 points.

EAC would not go away however as they rallied back themselves. With ten seconds remaining Eastern scored to cut the lead to only three. The Monsters fouled on the inbound pass and after South Plains made one of two EAC raced down the floor missed a three point attempt but got the rebound and kicked out to Chop Tang who was ran over on his attempt from three. Unfortunately his shot rimmed out but he went to the line for three shots with .5 seconds remaining. After making the first two, Tang missed the third one intentionally with the hopes of an EAC tip in but South Plains grabbed the rebound and secured the win.

EAC placed three players in double figures led by Nikola Kecman's 13 points. Chop Tang added 12 and Markhuri Sanders-Frison chipped in with 10. EAC was hampered on the night by turnovers committing 20 including 6 offensive fouls and they were out rebounded 34-33.

EAC (2-1) will play New Mexico Military at 1:00 CST on Saturday to conclude the South Plains Classic. Eastern will return home for their Thanksgiving Classic hosting Grand Canyon JV on Friday then playing Clark College on Saturday. On Saturday morning EAC will also host their Fifth Annual Junior Monster Clinic from 9-noon for kids in grades 1-8.
