Monsters Beat Eastern Utah

The Eastern Arizona College basketball team kicked off their season Friday night as they hosted the third annual Gila Monster Classic. The first game of the night saw Odessa College beat Scottsdale 83-57. Odessa led by 11 at half but quickly stretched the lead out in the first few minutes of the second half and cruised to the victory. Odessa was led in scoring by Carlo Rodriguez's 26 points. Pre-season All-American guard Jamel Guyton added 13 and Tommie Sykes chipped in with 12. SCC was led by Jesus Mora's 26.
The nightcap featured host and 27th ranked Eastern Arizona College and College of Eastern Utah. The defending ACCAC Champion Gila Monsters led from wire to wire for a 78-67 victory. Eastern Arizona led by as many as 14 in the first twenty minutes before taking a 40-28 lead into the break. The lead never dipped below double figures and grew to as many as 20 before Eastern Utah finished the game on a 7-0 run in the last minute to close the gap.
EAC placed four players in double figures led by sophomore forward Chop Tang's 20 points. Nikola Kecman scored 18, Will Bynum had 16 and Jonathan Scott chipped in with 10. Eastern Utah had three players finish with ten points each, Kal Bay, Dana Kendrid, and Deonta Burgess.
Saturday's matchups will see Scottsdale and Eastern Utah tip at 5:30 and then Eastern Arizona will face Odessa at 7:30
