Lady Monsters Take Opener

The Lady Gila Monsters defeated the South Plains Lady Texans 70-64 on opening night behind a game-high 21 points from Shaunice Robinson. After shooting a dismal 1-for-11 from the floor in the first half, Robinson made a number of big shots in the second half, shooting 5-for-6 from the floor and 4-for-5 from three-point range.
“It seemed like each time South Plains made a push, Shaunice hit a big shot,” head coach Ryan McAdams said. “She is developing into the sophomore leader we need at the point guard position.”
Sophomore transfer Lawre’ll Dobbins set the tone early for EAC, scoring the first six points of the game on offensive rebounds and put-backs. She finished the night a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, tallying 17 points, and had a game-high 10 rebounds, four on the offensive end. Sophomore Shakita Cox was the third double-digit scorer for the Lady Monsters with 13 points.
EAC forced the Lady Texans into 21 turnovers and outrebounded them 47-to-38. The Lady Gila Monsters were relentless in corralling 18 offensive rebounds, which led to 12 second-chance points. TaSheena Moore paced South Plains with 15 points and a team-high six rebounds.
