Monsters Win a Thriller at Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ --
The Eastern Arizona College basketball team won a thriller Wednesday night at Phoenix College when Dontae Bryant drilled a three pointer with three seconds left to give EAC a 66-65 victory.
The game was close throughout the first half with neither team leading by more than five points. At the break EAC was clinging to a 36-35 lead. Phoenix began the second half by spurting ahead 41-36 three minutes in. The Gila Monsters then went on a 21-5 run to take a 57-46 lead with just over five minutes to play. Phoenix had one last run of their own tying the score at 63 with one minute left and then taking the lead 65-63 with 18 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Eastern's Gabor Boros drove the lane and found Bryant for the game winner.
EAC placed three players in double figures led by Will Bynum's 15. Vladimir Bulut added 14 and Gabor Boros chipped in with 12. The aforementioned Bryant had six points off the bench to go with his five rebounds and three assists. For the game EAC shot 60% from the field while converting 8 of their 10 three point attempts.
EAC (19-5, 14-3) returns home for a showdown with Arizona Western on Saturday night. Both teams come into the game tied for first place in the ACCAC with only five regular season games remaining.
